^Morton Sobell Charged with conspiracy to commit treason, Sobell arrived on Alcatraz in 1952 and spent five years as its most famous political prisoner, being a victim of J. Edgar Hoover s witch hunt for Communist subversives. Once freed, Sobell returned montague harbor to live in San Francisco, where he still resides today.
